The low-cost airline Scoot will soon be flying regional jets for the first time in the company’s history. Last week, the first Embraer E190-E2 was taken over from the factory.
For the Brazilian airline, the fact that Scoot is the first airline from Singapore to be part of the E2 customer base is of crucial importance. It is therefore not surprising that the handover of the first unit was made into a regular ceremony.
The low-cost airline, which is a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, did not order the Embraer 190-E2 aircraft directly from Embraer, but rather purchased them through the leasing company Azorra. The regional jet that has now been delivered is called “Explorer 3.0”.
“We are honored to be the first Singapore airline to receive this modern and fuel-efficient aircraft, and the E190-E2 jets are critical to our overall network growth strategy.” The delivery of the first Embraer E190-E2 reflects our confidence in the demand for air travel and our commitment to connecting our customers to more destinations at affordable prices. “We thank Azorra and Embraer for their support in this next chapter as we become the first major E2 operator in Southeast Asia,” said Leslie Thng, CEO of Scoot.
The low-coster will introduce three more E190-E2s this year. Another four copies will follow next year. The company will use the regional jets to open up new routes for which the existing Airbus A320 and Boeing 787 aircraft would not be suitable due to their excessive capacity. The first Scoot-E190-E2 entered regular service in May 2024 on the route from Singapore to Krabi.
